American actor and director Brown found his place in screen history as Luke Skywalker's gruff uncle in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977). A victim of the 1950s HUAC blacklist, his other screen credits included Star Fair (1945), The Killers (1946), Obsession (1949) and The Bedford Incident (1965).
