Former athlete Brix won acclaim as Tarzan in The New Adventures of Tarzan (1935) serial, which was edited into a feature in 1938. Changing his name to Bruce Bennett he enjoyed even greater success with roles in Sahara (1943), Mildred Pierce (1945) and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948).
