A Scotsman latterly based in the US, Brechin worked as assistant editor on such box office hits as Die Hard (1988), Total Recall (1990) and Basic Instinct (1992). His credits as editor include Stargate (1994), Cutthroat Island (1995), Breakdown (1997), The Patriot (1998) Romeo Must Die (2000) and Doom (2005).
