An American documentarian, Blank was warmly regarded within the industry for his distinctive filmed portraits of people beyond the mainstream of society, often figures in the world of music. His best known film is the BAFTA winning Burden of Dreams (1982) which recounts director Werner Herzog’s effort to make Fitcarraldo.
