Assured a place in television history as one of the regulars in Dad’s Army (1968-77), Bean was a familiar face in the role of Private Sponge. He also appeared in series such as Richard The Lionheart (1961), Michael Bentine’s Potty Time (1973), Are You Being Served? (1973) and Hi-De-Hi! (1988).
