A warmly welcoming figure on a string of popular shows produced by Border Television in his native Cumberland, Batey was best known to audiences as the host of the gameshow Mr&Mrs (1967-1988). He also enjoyed success presenting the chat show Look Who’s Talking (1973-85) and Your Hundred Best Hymns (1980).
