A Canadian character actor who found success later in his career, Bain played the philanthropic millionaire who adopted the sons of his late housekeeper in the sitcom Diff’rent Strokes (1978-86). This came after a high profile supporting role in Maude (1972-78) and was followed by the comedy Mr President (1987-88).
