When BAFTA Met Oscar Podcast

23 July 12

BAFTA welcomes Governors of the American Academy Short Film branch to talk about what they look for in a winning short.

How do you qualify for the Academies short awards? What do the juries look for in a winner? In this podcast, recorded in June 2012, we explore the added short film distribution benefits to an Oscar nomination, and talk about the ways these awards are bringing new regard to the short film form, often shining a light on some of the industry’s brightest newer talents.

Due to unexpected technical issues the recording quality is lower than normal. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope you find the podcast useful.

The panel includes:

Governors of the American Academy Short Film Branch:

Jon Bloom's short film Overnight Sensation earned an Oscar nomination. His production company, Bloomfilm, was founded in 1987. He has produced numerous film packages for Academy Awards telecasts and the Governors Awards.

Bill Kroyer directed and produced the Oscar-nominated animated short film Technological Threat. He also directed the animated feature FernGully: The Last Rainforest.

Members of BAFTA-nominated shorts jury 2011:

Justin Johnson is Head of BFI Venues and selects animated films and films for younger audiences at BFI Southbank and the London Film Festival.

Lisa Bryer is the producer of The Last King of Scotland and her company Cowboy Films produced Oscar-winning short film Wasp.
