Short Film & Short Animation

21 March 13

BAFTA's Short Film and Short Animation categories at the EE British Academy Film Awards celebrate and reward innovative and experimental short fiction films and animation.

BAFTA Shorts 2013 - Screening Dates

Working closely with specialist distributor the Independent Cinema Office (ICO), this is the first time that BAFTA has organised a theatrical release, and marks a significant development in the way that BAFTA champions British-based talent. The nominated filmmakers will attend selected screenings to share their insights into the filmmaking process.

BAFTA Shorts 2013 will open on Friday 12 April at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, followed by a UK-wide roll-out [and an international tour]. All UK theatrical bookings are being handled by the ICO with a selection of films being toured internationally by British Council.

The UK release is being supported by the British Council and Shooting People.

BAFTA and Shorts

The Academy recognises that it is essential to reward and nurture the immense diversity and talent demonstrated by filmmakers producing short film and animation. Shorts offer both new and established talent alike the chance to create experimental and innovative films and, by rewarding excellence within these fields, BAFTA aims to raise the profile of these talented individuals and of shorts in general. The best film in each category receives a BAFTA Award, presented at the EE British Academy Film Awards ceremony.

BAFTA thank Soho Digital for their excellent work and impeccable service when creating the Digital Cinema Prints for BAFTA Shorts 2013.
