Jack Crocker: My BAFTA Experience

05 July 10

Jack Crocker descirbes the events of the past 'eventful' month from attending an inspirational Natural History BAFTA nominees talk at Aardman to his experience at the TV Craft Awards in May.

May has been an eventful month, as I'm sure you've read on everyone else's blog we all went to the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on May 23rd. THE BAFTAS! Now that's exciting for an 18 year old!

After that I had to come right back to school and start doing homework and revision again and talk to my mates instead of James May and Lenny Henry. Kind of a downer after such a high I can tell you, especially if you didn't win!

But in all seriousness congrats to Sam because I know we all think he deserved it and if we're brutally honest with ourselves his film was the best work submitted and I wish him all the best, specially seeing as I'm going to try and work with him haha.

The nomination alone is an honour and the experience alone made it one to remember, the nerves, the glitz, the glamour, the speeches, the people, the photographers! Exciting would be an understatement.

I'm on the brink of something special here with this bursary…and I really can't wait to make the most of it

My BAFTA experience started before the actual event however – weeks before the gathering of all us BAFTA nominees and our friends at the ceremony – in Bristol where fellow nominee Joe and I got to attend a Natural History BAFTA nominees talk at Aardman which was truly inspirational and filled with really kind people. It was an invaluable chance to get to know other nominees and the correspondence that followed was necessary but they were really cool and let me keep asking them questions! So thanks to those guys.

Things are only going to get better, I'm on the brink of something special here with this bursary and I really can't wait to get my A-levels out the way to really make the most of it!
