Jack Crocker: A Life Changing Experience

20 May 10

Jack Crocker tells how the Screen-Skills experience is proving to be one of the best in his life so far in his second BAFTA blog entry.

Jack Crocker blog entry 2Right what have I been up to this month?! More than I can write believe me. I was at Envy Post Productions for a week; possibly the most incredible week I’ve ever had. Not just because of the content but because of what it meant to me.

I felt more focused then ever before and no matter what I did it had a purpose. Every cup of coffee was a chance to meet a client; every tape delivery was an opportunity to write down the locations of other production companies. The adrenaline was something else, it really can’t be expressed. I mean I want to become a filmmaker, and it felt for a moment like maybe that’s actually going to happen.

I found out that the building was in use 24/7 and that was it. I stayed behind in the Library after my first shift for 2 hours learning about logging and scheduling, the rest of the week I was supposed to work 12:30 until 17:30 but I showed up between 9am-10am and talking to editors/assistants all night learning about Flame, Smoke, Avid, Nuke, FCP, Striping tapes, sound mixing, 3D stereoscopic imagery editing, grading, offline/online etc. and listening for sometimes 9 hours at a time about the industry and even philosophy in one case.

I want to become a filmmaker, and it felt for a moment like maybe that’s actually going to happen

This was one hell of an opportunity and I did my best to make the most of it, even met up with another nominee (Sam) a couple of times after work along with my mentor Mat.

So yeah…whether you believe it or not that week was life changing and I can’t believe I’m going to be attending the TV Craft Awards this month too!
