Harriet Beaney: It's All Happening Here!

20 May 10

Harriet recounts tales of script-writing, character development and meeting her mentor, Paul Ashton.

Harriet's Screen-Skills Blog 2 Wow, it’s been quite a month.I had a day trip to BBC Writer’s Room in April where I met my very cool BBC mentor, Paul Ashton, got a tour of Grafton House, the BBC Writer’s Room building, met some really nice, talented people, and sat in on an enlightening script readers’ meeting (they’re surprisingly positive about the scripts, actually).

Since then, I’ve been planning the main characters for the screenplay I will be writing, which is great because I can pretend I’m doing something more important than AS revision. I also went to a swish BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum event in Nottingham (pictured) where I watched a few interesting script extracts, and listened to the brilliant comic writer Dave Spikey.

On May 23, I’m off to the BAFTA TV Craft Awards, where I will meet yet more eminent people, as if shaking hands with BAFTA-winning writer Peter Moffat wasn’t enough! I seriously can’t wait.

I’ve been planning the main characters for the screenplay I will be writing...I can pretend I’m doing something more important than AS revision.

Obviously the biggest concern at the moment is what to wear. Today I spent an hour trawling through pictures of dresses on various clothes websites because I don’t want to get it completely wrong with a Bridget Jones-like disgrace. What a nightmare!
