I've Loved You So Long won the Film Not in the English Language Award at the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2009.
The Academy's Film Not in the English Language Award was presented to I've Loved You So Long. Director Philippe Claudel accepted the award from actress Marisa Tomei.
For the second year running, The Film Not in the English Language Chapter nominees were announced ahead of the nominations in other categories . This early announcement of the nominations allowed our members a longer period to view the five films and gives a greater profile to this year’s foreign language films.
Finola Dwyer, Chair of BAFTA’s Film Committee, said “This voting chapter has doubled in size since last year, reflecting the huge enthusiasm for world cinema amongst the BAFTA members”.
Chapter voting was introduced for this Award in 2007/08. A Chapter is comprised of Academy voting members with expertise in a specific area of the film industry.

"I thought that one of the most incredible films I've seen this last year was La Vie En Rose. It featured an incredible central performance by Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf. I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Two other films impressed me in 2007 and they were Enchanted and Atonement. Enchanted showed Disney back to what they do best and the later was an amazing film anyway and wowed the viewing public. Just one question though. Some of the films in the BAFTA nominations haven't had their UK release date until after the ceremony. Why include these and not films that were released last year?"

"Will the Awards be shown in the United States as I'm sure there is lots of interest in the US to see these awards. My choice for best movie is most definitely La Vie En Rose with Marion Cotillard winning Best Actress. She was unbelievable. The best biography I have seen in all my years of watching movies - and I'm 66, so that is a lot of years! Good Luck La Vie En Rose... "
