Myles' Final Blog: Beer, BAFTA and Bernard

04 December 09

Well, we didn’t win either of the BAFTAs we were shortlisted for, but Greg and I still had a fantastic night. After all, we were thrilled to be there at all! We checked into the Hilton nice and early. The view from the eleventh floor was quite impressive… but also very soggy. So, instead of going for a wander around before the ceremony we stayed in and watched Harry Potter on the room entertainment system with a couple of beers from the minibar. A splendid start.

The time came for the big event itself and we put on our stylish gear – probably looking like a beardy Goth and a hirsute hippy to everyone else. We bumped into some familiar faces and had enough champagne and red wine to be brave enough to introduce ourselves to some other folks too. We even met the lovely Catherine Tate in the disco after and had a chinwag with her.

It was a great night. Great to see Bernard Cribbins (a voice from our own childhoods) receive his BAFTA. Great to be part of all the pomp and circumstance. And great to see Phil and Sue win the award they deserved for a beautiful film! Congratulations to all the winners and commiserations to all the other nominees. We’ll win one eventually!
