[DONE] Children's Committee

The Children's Committee are vital to the running of the Children's Awards and play a crucial role in the Academy throughout the year.

The Children's Committee is not only involved in the content and presentation of the annual British Academy Children's Film and Television Awards (considering categories, chairing juries, providing key editorial advice) but is increasingly involved in developing membership events throughout the year to raise the profile of children's film and television and to highlight the Academy's commitment to the industry.

HARVEY ELLIOT - CHAIR

VP and General Manager, EA Bright Light, Electronic Arts

Harvey ElliotHarvey Elliott is the VP and General Manager for EA Casual as part of the EA Play Label, where he is responsible for driving IP targeting family and mainstream audiences, including the Harry Potter videogame franchise. Developed at EA Bright Light in Guildford, Harry Potter is Electronic Arts’ most successful videogames series covering seven games to date, across ten platforms, with global sales topping 40 million units. Harvey has been in the games industry some 16 years across a wide range of development roles, with a title roster which has included several Harry Potter titles, Crazy Taxi, Alias, Dakar Rally 2 and Burnout 3: Takedown. Prior to joining EA in 2003, he was Studio General Manager of the Cheltenham Studio for Acclaim Entertainment, with supervisory responsibility for Acclaim’s Teesside and London studios. This year has seen Harvey expand his role to include responsibility for EA’s casual studio in Los Angeles - where they make the popular Boom Blox games - as well as now being instrumental in the drive towards creating new, innovative games aimed at family audiences.

JULIAN SCOTT - DEPUTY CHAIR

Independent Producer and Media Consultant

Julian ScottJulian runs an independent production company, Purple Pictures, developing and producing children’s and family projects for television and theatrical release. Before this he ran Coolabi Productions, a division of Coolabi plc; a public traded company focusing on the ownership and exploitation of high quality intellectual property assets. Prior to Coolabi Julian ran Zenith Entertainment’s children’s division where he oversaw over 150 episodes of live action drama series ‘Byker Grove and ‘Out There’ for CBBC and animation such as ‘King Arthur's Disasters’ for CiTV. Prior to Zenith, Julian worked in New York for Sesame Workshop, most recently as Group Vice President, European Operations and prior to that as Group Vice President, Creative Development. Before locating to the US, Julian was Head of Production and Operations at Walt Disney Television International in London, overseeing 33 branded productions across the world.

JUSTIN JOHNSON - DEPUTY CHAIR

Committees: Justin JohnsonJustin Johnson works for the British Film Institute, selecting films for younger audiences at BFI Southbank and the London Film Festival. He is a regular contributor to Radio and TV on matters concerning children's films, animation and films in general. He has served on juries at many European Film Festivals including Berlin, Copenhagen and Zlin and has served as both a selector and a juror for the British Animation Awards. During his time at the BFI, he has curated seasons in partnership with the Shanghai Animations Studios, Pixar and the Swedish Film Institute as well as hosting many on-stage events and interviews. He is also Head of Operations for BFI Southbank.

JONATHAN BOSELEY

Vice President, Programming, Disney Channels UK & Ireland

Jonathan BoseleyIn Jonathan’s current role, he heads up programming, production, creative and acquisitions for all Disney branded channels including Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney and Disney Cinemagic. Jonathan is also responsible for the development of locally produced short-form programmes in the UK, such as the hit series As The Bell Rings, High School Musical: You’re The Star, My School Musical and the upcoming Life Bites. Jonathan joined Disney Channel from Nickelodeon in 1998 as Executive Producer, Studio Disney, overseeing live programming and production. He subsequently spearheaded the launch team for Toon Disney and Playhouse Disney UK, and oversaw Disney's interactive TV strategy. He was promoted in March 2003 to Programming Director, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. In this position, he oversaw the launch of Disney Channel across Scandinavia in February 2003 and the subsequent launches of Disney Channel in the Middle East, South Africa and Poland, and Toon Disney Scandinavia. In October 2006, Jonathan fronted the launch of the Nordic regions first ever dedicated preschool service, when he launched Playhouse Disney Scandinavia. The channel is the home of fun, learning-based entertainment for preschoolers with engaging shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, My Friends Tigger & Pooh and Bunnytown.

ANNE BROGAN

Managing Director, Kindle Entertainment

Anne BroganAnne’s career started at BBC Education where her credits included the award winning Shakespeare Shorts and Aurthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. She became Controller of Granada Kids in 2003, leading a thriving production business making the multi -award winning kids comedy My Parents are Aliens as well as the challenging drama, The Illustated Mum for C4 which won the International Emmy and two BAFTAs. In 2007 Anne founded Kindle Entertainment together with Melanie Stokes. In just over three years, Kindle has established a reputation in the market place for fresh, innovative content with a twist of comedy. Kindle’s first pre-school series Big and Small for CBeebies and Treehouse, featuring the voices of Lenny Henry and Imelda Staunton, has begun to establish itself as a significant pre-school brand, winning a BAFTA for its hugely innovative and playful website. Dustbin Baby a feature-length adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson’s novel, starring Juliet Stevenson and Dakota Blue Richards for BBC1/CBBC won an International Emmy for Best Children’s and Young People’s programme 2009. Recent productions include Jinx a live-action comedy, currently airing on CBBC and Some Dogs Bite an orginal feature-length drama for young adults, written by Lin Coughlan and directed by Marc Munden, commissioned by the BBC and due to air in UK cinemas and on television, late 2010.

Director, BBC Children's

Joe GodwinJoe is responsible for all the BBC’s services for children, on CBBC & CBeebies, TV and online. He joined the BBC Children's department in 1989 and worked on shows such as Blue Peter, Going Live and Record Breakers.

Joe's also worked at Nickelodeon UK as Head of Original Production and Interactive Director, and as Head of News, Factual & Entertainment at CBBC.

Joe is Chair the youth talent schemes of the Edinburgh TV Festival, and is a member The Advisory Panel on Children's Viewing of the BBFC, and the UK Council for Child Internet Safety.

GLYNN HAYWARD

Creative Director, Complete Control

Glynn HaywardGlynn is the Creative and Managing Director of Complete Control, a leading Independent Children's Interactive Production Company. Since 1999, Glynn has directed and produced over 200 interactive resources for broadcasters, publishers and children's charities, to help children learn through having fun online. 2006 saw Complete Control winning the first BAFTA for the Learning Primary category for an online interactive white board resource called Mapping our World, and in 2007 a BAFTA in the Interactive Category for The Secret Show web site. Glynn has also directed and produced online flash animated multi-platform content for children’s entertainment brands such as Charlie and Lola, Peter Rabbit, Tinga Tinga Tales, The Secret Show, Mr Bean, Teletubbies, In the Night Garden and many more. Complete Control also produced the highly successful BAFTA KIDS vote site in 2009, in which a record breaking 426,000 children's votes were cast for the 2009 awards.

Commissioning Editor, Channel 4 Education

Matt Locke PhotoMatt Locke is Commissioning Editor for Education at Channel 4. He works with the Education team to commission online services that will deliver informal learning in innovative and exciting ways to teenage audiences.

In the first year of its new online strategy, C4 Education projects have won numerous awards, including a BAFTA, BIMA and Flash Forward award for Bow Street Runner ( www.channel4.com/bowstreetrunner ), a BAFTA nomination for Yeardot ( www.yeardot.co.uk ) and an EMMY for Battlefront ( www.battlefront.co.uk ).

Before Channel 4, Matt was Head of Innovation for BBC New Media & Technology. He was responsible for developing and running research programmes within the BBC and with external partners, including developing academic and industry partnerships, and developing open innovation initiatives like http://backstage.bbc.co.uk and http://open.bbc.co.uk/labs/ .

Before joining the BBC, Matt worked as a curator and writer, specialising in the social adoption of technology and the cultural impact of digital technology, and still continues to write regularly about these themes for journals, websites and his own site at www.test.org.uk

DEBBIE MACDONALD

VP, Programming Director, Nickelodeon UK

Debbie MacdonaldDebbie Macdonald’s remit includes heading up acquisitions, scheduling and original production for Nickelodeon UK which includes six television channels, two popular websites and a mobile TV channel spanning the network’s Nickelodeon, NickToons and Nick Jr brands.

Debbie is Executive Producer for all Nickelodeon UK-produced series and spearheads Nickelodeon’s pilot scheme, which launched in 2005 and is unique among the UK’s children’s channels. Genie in the House, Nickelodeon’s first production to come out of the scheme, launched in 2006 to immediate ratings success and has gone on to produce 78 episodes and shown worldwide.

Having joined Nickelodeon UK in 1994, during her years with the network Macdonald has been responsible for many key programming acquisitions that have been instrumental in establishing Nickelodeon as the number one commercial kids’ TV network in the UK. Shows including SpongeBob SquarePants, Fifi and the Flowertots, Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom, Humf and Roary the Racing Car have all helped to ensure that the channels are exciting and vibrant for their viewers aged from 2 -12.

A regular jury panelist for BAFTA and the Royal Television Society, prior to joining Nickelodeon, Macdonald started her career in acquisitions at the BBC.

CECILIA PERSSON

Vice President of Acquisitions, EMEA at Turner Broadcasting

Cecilia Persson 1Cecilia Persson is Vice President of Acquisitions for all Turner Broadcasting’s kids’ channels across EMEA, including Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, Cartoon Network Too and Boing.

Cecilia joined Turner Broadcasting in 2005 as Director of Acquisitions and was promoted to Vice President of Programming, Acquisition and Presentation in 2006. Her role expanded in 2009 to take overall responsibility for Turner Broadcasting’s acquisition strategy across EMEA.

Previously Cecilia was Director of Acquisitions, Planning and Channel Development at Showtime, the Viacom co-owned digital satellite broadcaster. There she was responsible for acquiring a wide variety of products, ranging from kids content to feature films, and oversaw planning and presentation for the company’s seven owned and operated channels.

Based in the UK, Cecilia was responsible for output deals with major studios including Fox, Universal, Paramount, Sony and DreamWorks. Prior to Showtime, Cecilia was Channel Manager at Carlton Cinema.

ANNA RAFFERTY

Anna RaffertyAnna Rafferty is responsible for Penguin Books' UK websites, digital marketing and digital publishing including penguin.co.uk, puffin.co.uk, penguinclassics.co.uk, spinebreakers.co.uk; the online community for teen book-lovers, run by teens, for teens and penguindating.co.uk - online dating for book-lovers as well as Penguin's eBooks, apps, games, interactive reading and all sorts of other, new, imaginative story-telling tools.

Career resume: Anna started work in 1999 as a copywriter at www.lastminute.com; stayed there for a few years, eventually becoming the Head of Customer Experience and was part of that growth from a one-room start-up through the IPO and PR explosion, to profitability. She left lastminute.com to join a Digital Creative Strategy agency in a bizdev role but hated working on pitches and not being a brand owner. After 2 years, she had enough of the agency world and left for the sleek and fragrant V&A Museum in South Kensington, happy to be a client again, working on her own projects. However, 8 months after starting at the V&A, she spotted her dream job on the Penguin website and the rest is above.

Jonathan SmithJonathan Smith is a co-founder of TT Games Publishing and Executive Producer of the LEGO series of games, including LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Batman and LEGO Harry Potter.

EMMA TENNANT

Controller of ITV Digital Channels

Emma TennantEmma Tennant joined ITV in October 2005 as Controller for ITV3 and in 2007 took on responsibility for the CITV digital channel. In June 2009 she was appointed as Controller of ITV Digital Channels, (ITV2, 3, 4 and CITV). Emma and her team are responsible for the commissioning, scheduling and acquisitions of the digital channels. ITV2 and ITV3 are the two most popular non-terrestrial channels in the UK, ITV4 is the tenth most popular channel and CITV is the most popular commercial children’s channel in the UK. Whilst at CITV Emma has commissioned a number of new shows including BOOKABOO, EMU, FINGERTIPS and GREEN UP YOUR LIFE. Previous to ITV Emma worked for Living TV for nine years, in a number of roles including as Head of Programming where she was responsible for bringing CSI, Will & Grace, Charmed and Next Top Model to the channel.
