A prolific writer in his native north-east of England, Barras wrote for newspapers, radio, theatre and latterly television, combining much of this output with a day job at the Swan Hunter shipyards. He scripted the 70s BBC2 series Mother Nature’s Bloomers and the television movie Come Snow, Come Blow (1993).
