On Saturday 17 July 2010, renowned director Paul Greengrass took to the stage in Latitude’s Film and Music Arena for a BAFTA interview with Simon Mayo. Greengrass discussed his career in film and television revealing the many influences, pressures and events that have shaped his style.

Like any craft, doing it gets you better, doing it gives you confidence, doing it allows you to make mistakes

Paul’s portfolio of work is dominated by many factual dramas. These include Bloody Sunday based upon the 1972 shootings in Derry, Northern Ireland, BAFTA-winning The Murder of Stephen Lawrence, about the widely reported murder of the 18 year old student in 1993 and United 93, which chronicles events aboard the United Airlines flight, which was hijacked during the September 11 attacks.

In this xclusive interview, Greengrass discusses the emotional intensity of creating such films and the deep responsibility that comes with recreating real life tragic events. He explains how the film-making process often leaves him awed by the collective power of those he is privileged enough to work with: "To be a director is to watch people do beautiful things".

Paul's work also includes major film credits such as Bourne Ultimatum, Bourne Supremacy, and Green Zone, all of which star US actor, Matt Damon.

Watch the full interview to learn more about Paul Greengrass' fascinating career and discover how he developed his unique voice and directorial style.
