BAFTA honour the Monty Python team with a Special Award presented in New York.

The surviving members of the Monty Python team received the Academy's Special Award at a unique reunion event in New York on 15 October 2009.

BAFTAThe event, co-hosted with IFC (Independent Film Channel), celebrated the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Monty Python comedy team. John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin were all in attendance to receive the Award in honour of their outstanding contribution to film and television from BAFTA Chairman, David Parfitt.

The team went onto answer questions submitted from the audience and, amidst much good humour, John Cleese revealed his 'true' feelings for Michael Palin: "I have never fancied Michael Palin. I find him physically repellent."

The Special Award

Special Awards are given in the Gift of the Academy’s Board of Trustees to recognise a significant contribution in film, television or video games. Previous recipients include: Lord Attenborough, Dame Judi Dench, Carl Davies, Julie Walters, Billy Connolly, Audrey Hepburn, Dame Maggie Smith and Eon Productions to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of James Bond.
