I write double what I need to, to allow me to, hopefully, get down to the comedy gold
On 6 June 2011, Miranda Hart joined Guardian journalist Grace Dent at the Academy to discuss the craft of writing for television comedy. Having already enjoyed two series of success, reaching over 4 million viewers and building up an extensive and loyal fan base, Miranda Hart is certainly doing something right despite her feelings that the industry wouldn't like Miranda when it first aired, as studio comedy was perceived as too old-fashioned.
Miranda has been applauded for being warm, endearing and laugh out loud funny. In the words of its creator, writer and star, 'It now feels like people are allowed to openly like an uncool show'
The sitcom Miranda was BAFTA nominated at the 2011 Television Awards in recognition of a brilliantly well observed script that brings to life a real talent for physical humour.
In this BAFTA event video discover how the series was conceived, the writing process, where inspiration and influence is drawn from and the challenges Hart faces in her role as creator, writer and actor.
