Human Planet is the first BBC natural history series to turn the camera on the human species. It reveals the extraordinary human ability to adapt to every environment, becoming the most successful species on earth. On 21 May 2011, series producer Dale Templar spoke about the programme and showcased some of its most stunning footage.

Nearly every bit of kit we brought broke down at some point... some seemed to break down all the time.

She explained in detail the practical challenges posed by various landmark scenes from the series, from flying a super-slow motion camera and operator from the USA to Ethiopia, to fighting off the noxious gas inside an active volcano in Indonesia. As well as detailing the various cameras and bits of kit that combined to create Human Planet's stunning imagery, Templar also offered wisdom about why self-confidence is key when confronting a pride of lions.
