Storyboarding for Beginners with Temple Clark

Expert storyboard artist, Temple Clark, led a BAFTA FAMILIES interactive workshop for an enthusiastic audience of 7-11 year olds.

Shunning the bank holiday weekend sunshine, forty 7-11 year olds and their parents came to 195 Piccadilly to attend a special BAFTA FAMILIES event entitled ‘Storyboarding for beginners with Temple Clark’.

Temple is a feature film storyboard artist with over 15 years experience, and has worked on a number of family favourites, including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Da Vinci Code and The Golden Compass.

In the interactive workshop, Temple showed how storyboards are put together by acting out scenes with the children and challenging them to think about where the camera would be positioned for each shot. Armed with this knowledge, the children drew their own storyboards based on real scripts, then watched the actual scenes from the film.

The children also tried their hand at concept art. When asked to create a scary monster, a surprising number decided to draw the BAFTA mask!

Temple shared his own storyboards with the audience, and answered questions about how he approaches his work. After the event, he was interviewed by two young reporters for the government-backed Film Street website. To see their article, visit: www.filmstreet.co.uk

BAFTA Families

BAFTA FAMILIES is a new strand focusing on developing young audiences in London and regionally. Over 2008, events will be delivered during school holiday periods and as festival events for young people, each focusing on a different area of film, TV or games and featuring a guest speaker.
