Mad Men

17 October 10

Screenwriter Sir David Hare presents his selected inspirational script: Mad Men

Year of release: 2007-present

Screenwriter: Matthew Weiner (main)

Key awards: BAFTA for Best International programme; Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series

Screenwriting: Mad Men

Now in its fourth series, the hugely successful Mad Men is the creation of TV producer Matthew Weiner. Although a team of writers has been assembled over the various series, it is Weiner who remains lead story writer and who oversees all scripts.

The show focuses on an advertising agency in New York in the early Sixties, a period often viewed as the beginning of the golden age of advertising when precedents were established and memorable creative work was being produced.

Within immaculate production design, the intricately-constructed storylines involve the work and home life of various agency characters, with particular focus on Don Draper, a successful ad man who hides deep personal secrets.
