Jerry Maguire

17 October 10

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna presents her selected inspirational script: Jerry Maguire

Year of release: 1996

Screenwriter: Cameron

Key awards: Oscar-nominated for Best Original Screenplay

Screenwriting: Jerry Maguire

Jerry Maguire marked the third feature for writer-director Cameron Crowe and used the world of sports marketing as a backdrop to a story of love, honesty and loyalty.

It’s the tale of a sports agent, seemingly disillusioned with what he feels is an industry riddled with corporate dishonesty, who decides to branch out on his own taking with him one loose-cannon sportsman as his sole client and a single-mother as his assistant. Along the way he puts into practice what he believes is a fairer and more honest way of working and finds love where he didn’t expect it.

The film is notable for Cuba Gooding Jnr’s energetic, scene-stealing performance as well as yielding a number of quotable lines of dialogue, with one, ‘Show me the money’, entering the popular lexicon.
