BAFTA Breakthrough Brits, in partnership with Burberry

Latest news about Breakthrough Brits, BAFTA’s new initiative to support and celebrate up-and-coming British talent.

A selection of talented newcomers across Film, TV and Games will become part of this brand new initiative in partnership with Burberry. They will be guided on a year-long mentoring programme that includes free access to BAFTA events and regular meetings with industry experts who will help them form the industry connections that will shape their future career.

This activity will kick off with a day of in-depth career guidance and mentoring from leading industry figures at BAFTA headquarters, 195 Piccadilly, in London on October 21, 2013. The day will conclude with an evening reception at Burberry’s Regent Street flagship store.

The Selection Process

The ‘Breakthrough Brits’ were selected by a cross-industry jury of leading figures from the film, television and games industries. The group met at 195 Piccadilly, home of BAFTA, on 4 September 2013 to consider the nominations. After several hours of discussion, the jury agreed a list of 17 talented newcomers to make up the final list of BAFTA Breakthrough Brits 2013 .

The Jury

The jury was made up of an impressive list of industry experts from across film, television and games, all keen to support emerging British talent. These included several BAFTA winners and nominees as well as some recognisable celebrity faces. Read the jury announcement press release for more details.

Candidates

Please note, we are no longer accepting applications for Breakthrough Brits as the process closed on 08 July 2013. The criteria for candidates to apply for consideration is as follows:

  • UK nationals residing in Great Britain
  • at the start of their career and making a name for themselves as a performer or in a craft specialism within film, television or games
  • have been involved with a piece of work that has been theatrically released, broadcast or published between October 2012 and October 2013 in either a supporting or leading role
  • in their first lead role on a production between October 2012 and October 2013, though it may still be in production
