Winners’ Press Conference interview with Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) for Animated Film

Winners' press conference interview with Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) in the Animated Film category

Q. Guys, it is a bit cheesey, bit corny, but everything is awesome now, I'm guessing, right?

CHRIS MILLER: Not everything in the world, but this is pretty awesome, I would say.

PHIL LORD: Let's not go crazy.

CHRIS MILLER: But this is pretty awesome.

NEW SPEAKER: How quickly do you make a BAFTA out of Lego?

PHIL LORD: Oh gosh. These are pretty good. I don't know if I want to replace these.

CHRIS MILLER: Much shinier. The Lego Oscar that Phil posted was from an artist named Nathan Sawaya from Google Images which is pretty cool. You should check it out some time.

PHIL LORD: Hot scoop.

CHRIS MILLER: But I think we are going to have to ask him to make one of these. He is a little bit more skilled than us.

NEW SPEAKER: How does that song go?

CHRIS MILLER: How does it go?

PHIL LORD: It is really hard to remember.

CHRIS MILLER: It doesn't get stuck in your head or anything. I think you know. I think you know.

NEW SPEAKER: You have mentioned it, are you really annoyed that you didn't get it?

PHIL LORD: No. We were having fun up there, but honestly it's a great year for animation. A little bad luck for us, but those are all great movie and those are our friends. We are really happy for them. Whoever wins is going to deserve it.

NEW SPEAKER: What is it like, your phone going off in the

CHRIS MILLER: Really good.

PHIL LORD: Yes, that is good.

CHRIS MILLER: Apparently people found out about this, I guess.

PHIL LORD: Moms and dads and stuff.

CHRIS MILLER: It was pretty cool.

NEW SPEAKER: Congratulations, guys. I have to say this has raised the bar in animation on so many different levels. I am curious, though (inaudible) how involved are you guys actually going to be in that?

CHRIS MILLER: You know, we are actually really involved. We are developing three movies right now. We are writing Lego 2. We are about a third of the way through, a little behind. We are going to be more behind after we are inebriated.

PHIL LORD: Yes. Whatever we write tomorrow is not going to be our best scene.  So look for it in Lego 2. See if you can spot which one.

CHRIS MILLER: We are producing all of them. There's a Ninjago movie, which is a comedy martial arts movie.  And a Lego Batman movie with Will Arnett, and Lego 2.  So we are going to be involved in all of them and have been pretty hands on, I have to say.  Because we are control freaks.

NEW SPEAKER: Are you actually fans of Lego? Were you fans of Lego when you were kids?

PHIL LORD: Sure. We were big Lego space fanatics.

CHRIS MILLER: Space people in a big way. The character Benny was based on the little blue spaceman I had as a kid and I brought in the cracked helmet and everything.

Q.  That is all the time we have, Michael. I am afraid.

NEW SPEAKER: Is your song nominated for the Oscar?

CHRIS MILLER: Our song is nominated for an Oscar.

PHIL LORD: Yes, and it's going to be a really cool performance, our friends Tina and Sarah (inaudible) other folks are going to join us there.  We couldn't be more thrilled.

Q.  Fantastic. Congratulations one again, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
