BAFTA To Host Kate Winslet Career Retrospective

 ‘BAFTA A Life in Pictures: Kate Winslet’ will take place on Friday 4 December

London, 3 November: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today announced that multi BAFTA-winning actress Kate Winslet CBE will discuss her craft and career at a special ‘BAFTA A Life in Pictures’ event at BAFTA’s headquarters, 195 Piccadilly in London, on Friday 4 December. Public tickets will be available to book from 1pm on Friday 13 November at www.bafta.org/whats-on/.

‘BAFTA A Life in Pictures’ is a long-running series of onstage interviews in which some of the film world’s leading talent share insights into the experiences that helped them hone and develop their craft. The series has hosted such figures as Kenneth Branagh, Cate Blanchett, Todd Haynes, Ang Lee, Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson.

During a career spanning over 20 years, Kate Winslet has received seven BAFTA nominations, winning twice. She was awarded her first BAFTA in 1996 for her supporting role in Sense and Sensibility, and a second in 2009 for her leading role in The Reader. Winslet was named British Artist of the Year at the BAFTA Britannia Awards in Los Angeles in 2007.

Kate Winslet began her film career in 1994 starring in the critically acclaimed Heavenly Creatures, and garnered worldwide attention in 1997 with Titanic, where her performance was nominated for a slew of awards including the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Actress. Other film credits include her BAFTA-nominated roles in Iris (2002), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2005) and Finding Neverland (also in 2005). In 2007, Winslet received BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for her performance in Little Children which saw Winslet set the record for the youngest actor to receive five Oscar nominations.

In 2009 she received two BAFTA nominations in the same category for her performances in Revolutionary Road and The Reader, winning the award for Leading Actress for the latter. The same year also saw her become the youngest actress to receive six Oscar nominations, with her nomination and subsequent win for The Reader, and saw Winslet win two Golden Globe Awards in the same year, making her only the third actress to achieve the feat. In 2011 she also won an Emmy for her titular performance in the television miniseries Mildred Pierce.

Kate Winslet will next be seen starring in The Dressmaker with Liam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving, and Steve Jobs alongside Michael Fassbender.
