BAFTA Games Lecture: Jade Raymond

15 April 2015

The BAFTA-nominated producer of Assassin’s Creed will speak on Friday 8 May

London, 15 April: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today announced that the BAFTA-nominated game developer Jade Raymond, best known for creating blockbuster game franchises including Assassin’s Creed, will deliver the 2015 BAFTA Games Lecture. The event will take place on Friday 8 May at BAFTA’s headquarters, 195 Piccadilly in London.

The BAFTA Games Lecture provides an insight into the creative experiences of some of the world’s most compelling games professionals, and provides a platform to share their personal vision for the future of the industry. Jade Raymond will be the first woman to deliver the lecture, following previous speakers including Will Wright, Peter Molyneux, Hideo Kojima, Drs Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk and David Cage.

Harvey Elliott, Chair of the BAFTA Games Committee, said: “Jade Raymond has played a leading role in creating some of the most influential games of the last decade.  She is passionate about games, and equally passionate about the development of the future games workforce. Jade's support for women in games is particularly significant and we look forward to welcoming her to BAFTA to share her insights and experiences.”

Jade Raymond holds a DEC in Pure and Applied Science, and a BSc in Computer Science from McGill University in Canada. She started her career as an online programmer for Sony Online and has held various programming and management positions at Sony, Electronic Arts and game development start-ups.

During 10 years at Ubisoft, Raymond was co-creator and Executive Producer of Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft’s bestselling franchise. With over 76 million copies sold to date, Assassin’s Creed is one of the bestselling game franchises of all time. Raymond received three BAFTA nominations for the first Assassin’s Creed game in 2009, in the Artistic Achievement, Technical Achievement and Story & Character categories. The whole franchise has received 30 BAFTA nominations to date.

After shipping the first two Assassin’s Creed games, Raymond led the team that created Ubisoft’s second bestselling original IP: Watch Dogs. She then went on to found the Ubisoft Toronto studio where she built a team of over 300 developers in under three years.

Raymond recently moved back to Montreal where she is supporting indie game developers while preparing her latest venture, due to be announced in the summer.

She is on the Board of Directors of WIFT-T, an organisation dedicated to the advancement of women across screen-based industries.
