Alex Jones to host the 21st British Academy Cymru Awards Ceremony on September 30, 2012.

As BAFTA in Wales gears up to celebrate a special birthday this year, nominations are announced for its landmark 21st annual British Academy Cymru Awards honouring excellence in broadcasting, interactive and film in Wales.
There are 29 programme, craft and performance categories to be awarded this year. The winners will be announced at the ceremony which will be hosted by The One Show's Alex Jones at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on Sunday September 30th, 2012. The evening's special guest star will be Phantom of the Opera star John Owen Jones joining us straight from a sell-out 25th anniversary tour.
Alex Jones says: "I'm very much looking forward to presenting this prestigious awards ceremony and celebrating the best of Welsh talent in film, television and interactive media”.
Film and television drama productions continue to perform strongly this year with S4C's Gwaith Cartref, produced by Fiction Factory, receiving the highest number of nominations - 6 in all. Marc Evans' film Patagonia, starring Matthew Rhys - winner of BAFTA's 2011 Siân Phillips Award, is also nominated FIVE times. Meanwhile there is also very strong showing for the BBC 2 Timewatch documentary, produced by BBC Cymru Wales - Code- Breakers: Bletchley Park's Lost Heroes - the story of two men who hacked their way into Hitler's secret code machine and changed the course of the Second World War.
Nominations for Best Actor include Mark Lewis Jones (Baker Boys), Richard Harrington (Burton: Y Gyfrinach), Craig Roberts (Submarine) while Best Actress include Eve Myles (Baker Boys), Rhian Morgan (Gwaith Cartref), Sharon Morgan (Resistance).
Looking forward to celebrating the Awards on such a special occasion, Allison Dowzell, BAFTA in Wales Interim Director, says: “This is a landmark year for BAFTA Cymru and we have some exciting plans and a few surprises up our sleeve for this year’s special event. What better way to celebrate our 21st Birthday other than to recognise all the time, energy, determination and hard work that goes in to making and producing creative media, TV and film programmes in Wales."
Special presentations will also be made on the evening for the Siân Phillips Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. The nominations for the Gwyn Alf Williams Award for best programme or series of programmes which have contributed most to the understanding and appreciation of history in Wales are Fishlocks Wales, Wyneb Glyndwr Lions 71.

As a special birthday present to the Welsh film, TV and Media industry, BAFTA in Wales will be releasing industry tickets to this year’s awards ceremony for a significantly reduced £75.00 per person and £50.00 for members. Allison Dowzell, BAFTA in Wales Interim Director adds: “The 2012 ticket price makes the Awards accessible to all those who have made a contribution to the industry. BAFTA in Wales are also aware that significant proportion of the Film and Television industry in Wales are small businesses and freelancers, who often pay out of their own pockets to attend.”
