For many years BAFTA in new York operated as a totally volunteer-based organization, with a working Board dedicating much of their time to establishing and then growing the Academy here. The initial officers were Christina Thomas (Chair) with Freddie Hancock and Gillian Rose (Vice-Chairs).

In 2006, Christina Thomas was appointed as the first Chief Executive.
