Director/Writer Stephen Fingleton presents his debut feature film The Survivalist at a ‘Brits to Watch’ screening in New York.
On Tuesday 6 October, Director/Writer Stephen Fingleton presented his film The Survivalist at a ‘Brits to Watch’ screening in New York. Fingleton began his career in guerilla filmmaking before being chosen by Screen Daily as a ‘Star of Tomorrow’ in 2013. Stephen was one of 16 filmmakers selected by the prestigious BFI Lighthouse short film scheme, which funded his film, SLR. It was shortlisted for an Oscar, nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award, and won Best Irish short at the Foyle Film Festival. His feature screenplay for The Survivalist was voted onto Hollywood’s Black List and topped the UK Brit List for the year’s best un-produced scripts. The film premiered in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015, where it was awarded a Special Mention by the jury in the Best New Narrative Director category.
The screening, which took place at Soho House New York, was attended by members of BAFTA New York and film industry professionals. The event was introduced by Julie La’Bassiere, Chief Executive of BAFTA New York.
