Black Panther - Winners' Acceptance Speech, Special Visual Effects, EE British Academy Film Awards in 2019

10 February 2019

Winner's acceptance speech by Geoffrey Baumann for Black Panther in the Special Visual Effects category

GEOFFREY BAUMANN:  Wow.  What an honour to be here this evening.  Thank you, BAFTA, to be around such talented company as you all here.

I would like to start by thanking Ryan Coogler for bringing us on this journey with you.  You are not only a brilliant filmmaker but one of the most genuine and compassionate people I have ever met, and I am truly a better person for having known you.  Your humanity touched everyone in the process of making this film.

I would like to also thank Bob Iger and Alan Horn at Disney Studios for understanding that this film had to be made, and trusting in the genius of Kevin Feige,  Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore in Marvel Studios for recognising Ryan's brilliance and allowing him to tell his story.

Thank you to the thousands of visual effects artists around the world that worked tirelessly at ILM, Scanline, Method, RISE, Trixter, Double Negative, Mammal Studios.  Our VFX producer, Lisa Beroud, as well as the gentlemen behind me, Jesse James Chisolm, Craig Hammack, Dan Sudick.

But most importantly, I need to thank my two beautiful children, Mila and Cole.  I love you both so much and I'm sorry to be away from you more than I'm not.

And the person who has made this journey possible, my partner and wife.  Without your strength, none of this would be possible.  You fill the void where I'm not.

Thank you for your patience.  I love you more than life itself.

Thank you all.
