The Revenant - Winner acceptance speech, Film, EE British Academy Film Awards in 2016

14 February 2016

Winners Acceptance Speech by Steve Golin, Alejandro G Inarritu, Mary Parent & Keith Redmon for Best Film

ALEJANDRO G INARRITU:  Okay.  Well, this is overwhelming.
As Leo was saying, you know, the tradition of film-making here is amazing.  My father's favourite actors were the British actors.  He was always telling me that's acting-acting, not acting.  That's really acting.
You know, tomorrow, funnily I'm celebrating my anniversary, but I'm celebrating the two years' anniversary of my father's death, which I'm sure he's involved in this award, working upstairs, and I promised my mom I would not be sad and, that I would be celebrating his live, the life that gave me 50 years of the most beautiful man.  I have to be thankful for that as I am thankful for this.
Yes, there are so many people to give thanks that it's overwhelming.  They know that, I hope.  The ones that pop in my mind now is Liewoski, an amazing visionary and brother and incredible cinematographer. Jackie West.  Francine Maisler, Marcus Mead, the co-writer -every single head of department was so amazing.
Ryuichi Sakamoto, Carsten Nicolai,  Brise, the musician, Martine, my brother.  So many people to give thanks, but I want to shut up and please, guys, who wants to talk?  A joke, a dance.

MARY PARENT:  Thank you BAFTA for this incredible honour.  It's a beautiful award too.  Every day getting to be a part of The Revenant was an honour, and to be able to support a one-of-a-kind artist like this and to be a part of something that, I hope, twenty years for now, we may all be able to look back on and be proud.
Leo, Tom, should actually be up here accepting this award with us because when they weren't in front of the camera doing something brilliant, they were working behind the scenes with us and making us better at our job.  Of course, Alejandro, there's nobody like you.  You are amazing.  Your are incredible.  Your commitment.  Your passion.
Thank you so much for including me in this journey and, like the film, let all of us rise above and be better at what we do.  Happy Valentine's Day, Javier.
Steve Golin:  We would like to thank [inaudible] in particular.  I know Alejandro and Leo did, but honestly, without his commitment to this movie, it would never have happened.  Everybody at Fox Movies.  Thank you guys so much.
