Red Carpet Interview with Michael Fassbender

Interviewer: Zoe Ball

Q.      We're ready.  It's freezing, Michael Fassbender, I hope you're wearing a vest?

A.      I'm all right - I've just come from Norway.

Q.      That is seriously cold.  Congratulations on Steve Jobs, an incredible film.  Such amazing performance from all the cast.  Aaron Sorkin, fond of so much language.  There were ten to twelve pages in a scene that you had to remember.  Was that quite overwhelming?

A.      A lot of words. A lot of words. You know, at the beginning, when you see the script and it's 200 pages or so thick and it's quite daunting.  But, you know, it's just so rare to get writing like that and so it's worth all the sort of repetition but it just takes more time really.

Q.      How was working with Danny Boyle?  He's a wonderful man.

A.      Yeah, he's a wonderful man and a master film maker, he's a real craftsman, he's also incredibly energetic and just sort of amazing how much positivity and energy he brings to the set each day and it literally drives the whole crew forward.  He was instrumental in, you know, offering me the part and also filming in San Francisco, which was such an important thing and also he built in, you know, a rehearsal schedule for us which also was key to the whole project.  So he was wonderful.

Q.      And obviously Kate Winslet nominated tonight, how much fun did you two have running those scenes?

A.      Yeah, lots of fun.  She's just, you know, a class act.  I love her. She's so much fun.  She's brilliant but, you know, I think both of us have similar styles in terms of preparing and work.  We prepare a lot and then on the day we had a lot of fun with it.  Then you can really sort of bounce off each other.  She's very generous and just alsoreally a leader.  You know, she's kind of one of those born leaders, always making sure that everybody is doing well and getting enough rest.

Q.      She's like the mother of the set.

A.      Yeah.

Q.      Also Assassin's Creed.  How excited are you?  Are you as excited as we are about it coming out?

A.      I am.  I hope people are excited.  It was very special experience to be producing it as well. I learnt a lot and working with Justin again and Marion and Adam as well, we had such a good team together.  We're filming action sequences, it's all happening in real situ.  There's very little green screen which is very unusual these days for this kind of action adventure film.  So I think it's going to be pretty unique.

Q.      I like it going that way. Bringing it back, less green screen. Very quickly, a question for you, do you still plan to take six months off at the end of the year?

A.      Well, hopefully before the end of the year, in the summer, at least six months, yeah.

Q.      Okay.  Good luck tonight and hopefully for Alicia too. Two nominations, could be a very excited Valentine's night.

A.      Thank you.
