Red Carpet Interview with Matt Smith

Interviewer: Zoe Ball

Q.      Matt Smith.  I've got fleece tights.  Don't tell anyone.  How excited are you by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

A.      Very excited about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Q.      It looks like outrageous fun?

A.      It does what it says on the tin.  There're some good performances in it and it's a laugh.

Q.      Somebody has asked, how did you make the role of Parson Collins your own?

A.      Good question, Josh.  I thought it would be interesting if he was in love with Mr Darcy, not with any of the girls.  So that was my like, you know, spin on it I suppose.

Q.      And they went with it?

A.      Yeah, the director was cool, he was like, yeah man, that seems cool. I kind of like that.

Q.      Which performances have really moved you this year out of the nominations tonight?

A.      So many.  Brie, I think Fassbender's was brilliant. Alicia, I'd like to see her doing really well.

Q.      Two nominations for her tonight?

A.      Amazing.

Q.      It could be a happy family if Michael Fassbender wins too.

A.      What a happy family.  I think The Revenant was a brilliant film.

Q.      Would you have done what Leonardo DiCaprio did?  Could you have submerged yourself? Directors could be watching this so you've got to say yes, you'd do anything for a role.

A.      Absolutely, but that looked pretty out there, especially when he's in the water, but he has the big bear suit on.  I'd love him to win the Oscar as well.  But we're at the BAFTAs, not at the Oscars.

Q.      It's a pleasure.

A.      It's a pleasure always, Zoe.
