Winners Acceptance Speech by Jenny Beavan for Costume Design
JENNY BEAVAN: Oh what a lovely day. I live, I die, I live again.
I just have to tell you one thing, that I think I have worked with some of the most amazing directors in film, and one of my very first directors wrote me an email when he'd seen Mad Max and I shared it with George and I'm going to share it with you. It started -- it was from James Ivory:
Dear Jenny, I did not bring you up to run around deserts with a naked man and scantily dressed females. I did quite like the chrome lips, but that was not your department, I guess. You now live in Berlin, I hear. Perhaps that's the reason for your abrupt change of costume styles.
But he did bring me up very well and he brought me up to be able to do things like Mad Max, and George, thank you so much for taking me on, the bonnets and corset girls. I cannot thank you enough for giving me this chance. And thank you BAFTA and thank you my team. It's great.
