La La Land - Winners' acceptance speech, Cinematography, British Academy Film Awards in 2017

12 February 2017

Winners' acceptance speech by Linus Sandgren for La La Land in the Cinematography category

LINUS SANDGREN: Thank you to the Academy. This is overwhelming and extremely generous of you.

I would like to thank the entire La La Land crew, actually. I think this was a film that was made with an exceptional amount of craftmanship.

First of all, I want to thank Damien, your great romantic heart and passion for film and for filmmaking, and for the friendship.

I want to thank Ryan and Emma for your brilliant performances. And the producers, of course, Marc, Jordan and Fred. Thank you so much for all the support, Lionsgate, and I really want to also thank my visual collaborators, Mary Zophres in costume and David Wasco, Sandy Wasco on the design, and Tom Cross, the editor.

But what's really remarkable too for me with this film was to work with music and with choreography, so I would like to thank Mandy Moore for the choreography and collaboration, and Justin Hurwitz for being on set playing for us so beautifully.

Then I also want to thank my entire camera crew, grip crew and electric crew, who also really walked an extra mile for this, and especially Ari Robbins, the operator; and Bogdan, who is the crane operator, who did a lot of hard work for us on this.

And I want to thank my wife, Cecilia, for standing  by my side, and my kids, Betty and Lucy. I love you so much. And I would like to dedicate this to my father.

I know you are watching over us.

Thank you so much.
