Red Carpet Interview with Bryan Cranston

Interviewer: Zoe Ball

Q.      Lovely to see you.

A.      Curtsey, we're both curtseying.

Q.      You are like a king.  That's why I curtsey.  Bryan Cranston, welcome to the BAFTAs, how does this feel tonight?

A.      It's chilly and lovely.  You know, there's such warmth, and embracing fans out here tonight.

Q.      It's exciting.  It's wonderful to know that.  Who do they cheer about, is it Walter White, is it Hal, is it Dalton Trumbo, is it all of them?

A.      You know, it doesn't matter, I just appreciate the love.  It's great to receive it.

Q.      There is a lot of love for you, Bryan.  Tell us about playing Dalton Trumbo, how important was it to play this role for you?

A.      Any time that civil liberties are at jeopardy of being lost, I think citizens need to voice their strong objections to that and perform dissent which is a very, very -- a cornerstone to a democracy. That's what Trumbo really is about, not to be afraid of someone else's opinion, that it may differ from yours but to be embracing of it.  And that's how we make a better society.

Q.      Fantastic.  Well put.  I couldn't have put it better myself. That's wonderful. What was the most fun scene that you had?  There was a huge ensemble cast in there, I loved those round the table scenes.

A.      I think the most fun I had in Trumbo was doing scenes in the bathtub where it was nice and hot water and I just had to sit there.  In fact El Fanning, my lovely daughter in the water, gave me these cufflinks.

Q.      Bath tub cufflinks.  They are gorgeous, she's a very thoughtful girl.

A.      That's me in the bathtub.

Q.      I love the fact that you work like that, good luck tonight, it's a strong category. Lovely to meet you.

A.      It's going to be a fistfight, we'll see who wins.

Q.      Thank you so much.
