Brie Larson - Winner acceptance speech, Leading Actress, EE British Academy Film Awards in 2016

14 February 2016

Winner Acceptance Speech by Lenny Abrahamson on behalf of Brie Larson (Room) in the Leading Actress category

SASHA BARON COHEN: Brie is currently filming in Australia.  To accept the award on her behalf, the director of Room, the fabulous Lenny Abrahamson.

LENNY ABRAHAMSON: Yes, Brie, looking for a little bit of, you know, something light and nice to do after Room, is wrestling a large gorilla in Australia. But she wanted me to thank BAFTA. She's incredibly honoured by this award. She wanted me to thank Film4, and Studio Canal and also Ed Guiney, the producer of Room. But above all, she wanted me to thank Jacob Tremblay, who plays Jack in the movie and at seven years old, in his words, became her co-worker. Without him, I don't think we would have had a film. The fact she is not here allows me to say things about her that she would never say herself. She's an extraordinary person. She's warm. She’s furiously intelligent and I think she's one of the best actors of her generation. The dimensions of the room we shot much of our movie in were pretty tiny, but I think with Brie at the centre of this story, and the work of all the cast and crew, we managed to make something of real emotional scale. Thank you, BAFTA.
