The BAFTA Games Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary next year. Ahead of the first ever public announcement of the awards longlist on Thursday, we spoke to three members – Tara Saunders, Charu Desodt and Sam Hughes – about BAFTA’s journey through games, how its initiatives benefit the development community, and how games have evolved as a narrative medium to tell meaningful stories in unique ways.

  • A strong year for debut feature films, with Aftersun, Winners, Blue Jean and My Old School are all picking up awards.

BAFTA award-winning director, writer and producer Shane Meadows, will deliver the David Lean Lecture on 5 December 2023. It is the arts charity’s headline annual address to the industry and those considering a career in the screen arts.

Award-winning actor Micheal Ward has fronted a new national cinema campaign devised by arts charity BAFTA and UK cinema advertising market leader Digital Cinema Media (DCM) to inspire the creative talent of tomorrow to pursue a career in the screen industries.  

Shirley Henderson and Stuart Wilson announced as BAFTA Scotland Outstanding Contribution Recipients for 2023

  • BAFTA Scotland announces actress Shirley Henderson and sound engineer Stuart Wilson as the recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television, and Outstanding Contribution to Craft (In Memory of Robert McCann) Awards for 2023
  • Henderson is a two time BAFTA Scotland Award winner, who is well known for her appearances in projects like Harry Potter, Trainspotting, Bridget Jones' Diary and Happy Valley
  • Wilson is a BAFTA and Oscar winner for his work on 1917 - with work ranging from major studio franchises such as Star Wars and James Bond to British classics like 24 Hour Party People and Morvern Callar
  • Henderson and Wilson will be presented with their Awards at the BAFTA Scotland Awards ceremony on Sunday 19 November
