London, 18 March 2024: BAFTA has today announced that comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan will return to host the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises on Sunday 12 May, celebrating must-watch TV broadcast in 2023.

Best friends as well as an award-winning comedy duo, Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan hosted last year’s BAFTAs for the first time, helping deliver an audience peak of 4.4 million nationally on BBC One – the show’s highest ratings since 2021, whilst clips of the night received just under 12 million views on social media.

The BAFTA Television Awards are Britain’s biggest annual celebration of TV, celebrating the shows and creative talent that captured the hearts and minds of BAFTA’s television voting membership in 2023. The star-studded ceremony will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 12 May.

The nominations for all 47 competitive categories in both the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises and BAFTA Television Craft Awards will be unveiled this Wednesday 20 March at 12pm (GMT) – recognising exceptional performances, craftsmanship and stories on our television screens from 1 January – 31 December 2023, as previously confirmed last September here.

The awards will also be broadcast in in North America, the Nordics, South Africa and Australia on BritBox International, in Australia and New Zealand on BBC Studios ANZ, and in 24 countries across Africa and the Middle East on AlThaqafeya and MBC Channels, with other territories to be confirmed.

Rob Beckett, said: “Romesh and I are absolutely buzzing to be back hosting the BAFTAs. We’ve not seen or spoken to each other since last year when we hosted so it will be good to catch up. It’s a real privilege to continually get work together even though our friendship is fake and completely fabricated for commercial gain. My teeth aren’t even that big I wear false ones so I can joke about them. On top of that Romesh isn’t even Asian he just pretends to be so he can do his mum’s accent”.

Romesh Ranganathan, said: “I really thought I’d done enough last year to be asked to host it solo this time, but hosting it with Rob again is also an honour I suppose”.

Emma Baehr, Executive Director of Awards & Content at BAFTA, said: “Rob and Romesh were utterly brilliant hosts of the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises last year, cementing their reputation as one of the nation’s most treasured comedy duos, so we couldn’t be happier that they are returning to host Britain’s biggest celebration of TV on 12 May. The innovation, breadth and quality of British-made TV is one of our country’s biggest superpowers – inspiring, entertaining and informing like no other medium. We are really looking forward to celebrating the many talented people who bring TV to life on-and-off screen, and the must-watch shows broadcast in 2023, with the nominations for the BAFTA Television Awards and BAFTA Television Craft Awards out this Wednesday.”

P&O Cruises is once again the headline sponsor for the BAFTA Television Awards. The ‘P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award’ is the only award voted for by members of the public, honouring the impact of television and its power to bring the nation together. This year’s ‘P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award’ shortlist was announced on Thursday 14th March. The shortlist can be found here. Voting for the six nominees is now open and will close on 9th April.

About Rob Beckett

Rob Beckett is one of Britain’s most successful comedians and can be heard every Sunday at 5pm hosting his very own BBC Radio 2 show. Rob can currently be seen hosting his brand new Sky panel show Rob Beckett’s Smart TV, where each week big-name actors, comics, presenters and personalities join Rob, Alison Hammond and Josh Widdicombe to battle it out in a series of chaotic, trivia-infused rounds to discover who knows the most about TV. He can be seen alongside fellow comedian and best mate Romesh Ranganathan in Rob And Romesh Vs and as the unmistakable voice of Celebs Go Dating. In 2019 Rob co-hosted The Royal Variety Performance with Romesh, the first time two comedians had hosted the event together in over 30 years. Rob and Romesh also hosted The BAFTA TV Awards 2023. Rob can also be heard alongside Josh Widdicombe hosting their hugely successful podcast Parenting Hell through which they interview fellow parents on their successes (or most likely failures) at parenting.  With over 250 million downloads, guests have included Katherine Ryan, George Foreman, Jonathan Ross, Jack Dee and many more. 2023 saw the podcast hit the road on the Parenting Hell Live arena tour, playing to sold out arenas up and down the nation. They also co-wrote the Sunday Times Bestselling book Parenting Hell, a first-hand account of the challenges and chaos of their parenting journeys. 2021 saw Rob pen A Class Act, his autobiographical account of being working class in the world of television and comedy. Rob’s relatable and honest approach to comedy has also seen him host Children in Need and Comic Relief. Later this year he will embark on a huge world tour with his new show Giraffe.
