- BAFTA announces new members from across the world including Robert Pattinson, Joanne Froggatt and Himesh Patel
- Over 500 new members across the film, games and television industries from 11 different countries join BAFTA membership
London, 4 December: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today revealed its new intake of global BAFTA members for 2019. The 559 new members span the film, games and television industries across 11 countries, including 104 BAFTA nominees and 38 BAFTA winners.
New members include high profile acting talent Robert Pattinson, Joanne Froggatt, Sam Rockwell, Melissa McCarthy, Alicia Vikander, Himesh Patel and Nicholas Hoult. A number of recent BAFTA nominees have also been announced including composer Nicholas Britell (If Beal Street Could Talk) and director and producer Arthur Cary (Grayson Perry: All Man), alongside the BAFTA-winning production designer Fiona Crombie (The Favourite) and set decorator Alice Felton (The Favourite).
A number of high-profile games talent also join the pool of BAFTA members, including creative director Oliver De-Vine (Overcooked 2), art director Phillip Duncan (Overcooked 2), actor Courtenay Taylor (The Outer Worlds) and sound designer Leilani Ramirez (God of War).
Individuals previously identified for BAFTA’s new talent development programmes, BAFTA Elevate, BAFTA Breakthrough Brits and Breakthrough China, also join this year’s list including Anthony Welsh (Pure) and Kingsley Ben-Adir (The OA). BAFTA Elevate supports those from underrepresented backgrounds – in 2019 supporting actors, and in previous years supporting writers and female directors – and BAFTA Breakthrough gives emerging talent access to unique career development and mentoring opportunities.
The new members join a community of 8,000 creatives and professionals working within the film, games and television industries across the globe. BAFTA members can be involved in voting chapters for the Awards, as well as support BAFTA’s new talent initiatives, join and run committees and be elected to BAFTA’s Board of Trustees. Members also get access to a year-long programme of events and a private space at BAFTA Piccadilly.
