BAFTA Los Angeles Scholarships: Perla Lara

31 August 11

BAFTA Los Angeles is proud to support the studies of student Perla Lara, the recipient of a BAFTA Los Angeles Scholarship at the Inner-City Filmmakers school here in Los Angeles.

We congratulate Perla, pictured here with our Community Education and Outreach Committee Co-Chair Paul Heller, and look forward to following her progress and career.

Our Scholarships are made possible by the generous donations from our Members and Sponsors, as well as proceeds from our Silent Auction and Fundraising events throughout the year.

We are proud to reproduce a letter received from Perla below:

Dear BAFTA Los Angeles,

I would, first and foremost, like to thank you for your generous donation. A donation which helped me enter and be a member of the Inner-City Filmmakers program. Your commitment to helping young low income people in our community is greatly appreciated. I have visited your website and have noticed all the scholarships you award to students not unlike myself. Each year, Inner-City Filmmakers continues to advance its mission of enriching the lives of those with a passion for film. Through programs such as BAFTA Los Angeles we have had the honor to see many lives changed for the better. Inner-City Filmmakers has grown in incredible numbers through the past eighteen years. This feat could not be accomplished alone but with the help of many generous organizations like yours. The goal of Inner-City Filmmakers is to continue to make a difference in the world of film. With the help of donations from supporters such as you we will continue to see improvements in the way people in the industry view those who are not as wealthy. Not as a different class people but as cohorts and partners. Thank you, again, for your generous support of our efforts to increase opportunity for those who are without privilege.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles, has surely made a big difference in my life.

Best Wishes,
Perla Lara
