BAFTA Los Angeles Soccer: Spring League ends with narrow defeat

02 May 11

A terrific spring season in the Glendale Men's League finishes in a narrow defeat against local rivals CCHR.

In their final game of the Spring 2011 season the BAFTA Los Angeles 1st XI gave one of their most battling performances of the year, despite a squad wracked by unavailability.

Already secure in 4th place, the lads faced a strong CCHR squad, but gave as good as they got from the kick-off. An impressively solid defence marshalled by Chris Howe and Chris Nicley defanged the high-scoring CCHR front line, and but for one lapse of concentration, the lads would have walked off at half time level.

The second half saw the lads equalize with a terrifc goal from Dean Jacobs, and could easily have grabbed the lead as Howe's powerful header went just wide of the post.

A questionable refeering call then gave CCHR a free kick which they took quickly and slotted past the brave Tommy Laporte. The lads came storming back, and Jacobs broke away late, only to have his powereful shot blocked by their keeper.

When the final whistle blew, the result seemed unfair, but there were smiles all around as the lads congratulated each other on another season of excellent and enjoyable BAFTA Los Angeles soccer that saw the lads score a bumper 50 goals over 10 games.
