Committees and Mission Statements

Executive

Mission: To ensure that management of BAFTA Los Angeles is consistent with the Bylaws, Policies and strategic goals of the Academy and to maintain oversight of the various committees. The Committee is empowered to make decision between Board meetings, and to allocate financial resources not to exceed $5,000 in any given month. The Executive Committee consists of the Chair, Deputy Chair(s), Secretary and Treasurer of BAFTA Los Angeles, as elected by the Board of Directors, along with the Executive Director and Manager.

Awards Season Tea Party

Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event and acknowledge the Awards’ nominees and the contributions from the UK film community. To ensure a successful and profitable event.

Britannia

Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the Academy’s major fundraiser and to ensure a successful and profitable event.

Community Education and Outreach

Mission: To reach out to the Los Angeles area, using the talents of our Members and the authority of our Academy, to develop community educational and social activities, which will bring recognition, acclaim and respect to the Academy and it’s Members.

Constitution

Mission: To maintain and keep current the Bylaws and Policies of BAFTA Los Angeles, and ensure adherence to the Bylaws and Policies. To monitor the implementation of Policy, advise where future Policy would benefit the Academy and monitor the implementation and compliance of all non-profit statutes.

Finance

Mission: To maintain oversight of the Academy’s finances. To develop and administer appropriate and successful financial plans and procedures to ensure the present and future financial health of the Academy. To be Chaired by the Treasurer.

Garden Party

Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event and ensure its success.

Heritage Archive

Mission: To create, maintain, distribute and promote a series of in depth videotaped interviews with distinguished British and British-affiliated members of the film and television industries, describing their careers and achievement. The Archive is available to all British Academy members, and is a resource for scholars, students and industry professionals worldwide.

Learning & Events Committee

Mission: To develop informative and entertaining programming for the benefit and professional development of the membership and as a part of maintaining relationships with the guilds and other organizations and the general public. Current programs include: Seminars, Saturday Morning Salons, Member Short Film Showcase and outreach panel programs on topics such as directing and film finance and distribution.

Member Services

Mission: To represent the needs, wishes and ideas of the Members and to act as a bridge of communication and liaison between the Members and the BAFTA Los Angeles Board.
The Committee organizes 'Clubhouse Nights' and other events as a Membership forum and to encourage the exchange of professional expertise and creative interaction between Members in furtherance of each others' craft. In addition, the committee develops and arranges Member discounts.

Membership

Mission: To review, evaluate and make recommendations to the Board of Directors on the eligibility of applicants for membership in BAFTA Los Angeles.

Newcomers

Mission: To help UK citizens who have recently relocated to Los Angeles and who are either full-time film or television students, or are working in the entertainment industry or related fields. The Newcomers program provides mentoring for those participants who desire it, access to BAFTA Los Angeles events and screenings where space allows, and the chance to network and increase their range of contacts. The program has the goal of promoting successful careers in the entertainment industry for Brits.

New Media

Mission: to become a center of excellence for the provision of resources, knowledge and opportunity relating to all technology and new media matters that impact British Academy members and the media, technology and entertainment community at large. Our goal is to serve the community, and for the New Media Committee to be regarded as a thought leader in new media and technology matters. The New Media Committee's further aims to provide a networking hub for BAFTA Los Angeles members, to identify opportunities and changes in the field of new media and technology, and to share resources and knowledge to help the community thrive in an ever changing digital landscape.

Publicity & Marketing

Mission: To work with all committees in raising the profile and branding of BAFTA Los Angeles, primarily to the US entertainment and media community.

Real Estate

Mission: To assess the Academy's requirements for a permanent home; to locate a suitable building; to advise the Board on the acquisition of the building; and to customize the building to meet the Academy's requirements.

Scholarships

Mission: To administer the BAFTA Los Angeles Scholarships Programs.

Screenings

Mission: To present a broad and timely selection of films and other creative works of the moving image, with special emphasis on those either of British origin or with British creative elements for the purpose of one or both of the following: i) British Academy Awards consideration, ii) the celebration, promotion and broader exposure of original and creative works.

Sponsorship & Fundraising

Mission: To support the Academy by raising financial contributions and other resources through corporate sponsorship programs, foundations and grants. Committee should be Co-Chaired by the Treasurer but if this is not possible, the Treasurer must be a member of the Committee.

Television

Mission: To support, develop and promote focus on the television medium in order to further the goals and mission of the Academy.

TV Tea Party

Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event and acknowledge the nominees and the contributions from the UK and the Commonwealth to the U.S. television industry. To ensure a successful and profitable event.

Video Games

BAFTA Los Angeles has launched a new Committee to work on this new area for our organization, and is currently recruiting established individuals to become Video Game Members here in the United States.
