BAFTA Los Angeles has announced a new university graduate scholarship program, the Pigott/BAFTA Scholarships.
The scholarships will support British university graduate students studying at accredited graduate schools in the U.S. in filmmaking programs leading to a Masters Degree. The scholarships are funded by a $1 million endowment from industrialist and philanthropist Mr. Mark Pigott KBE.
Mr. Donald Haber, Executive Director & COO of BAFTA LA, said, “I would like to thank Mr. Pigott for his visionary leadership in conceiving and funding this scholarship program. This is the largest scholarship program in the history of BAFTA and will contribute to the development of the next generation of leaders in the film industry.” Since the organization’s inception in 1987, the BAFTA Los Angeles Scholarship Program has been successful in supporting British graduate students complete their education at USA University film schools.
Mr. Mark Pigott KBE, Executive Chairman, PACCAR Inc shared, “My family is pleased to partner with BAFTA to establish this important scholarship program that will provide opportunities for talented men and women to pursue their dreams of working in the film industry. The scholarships will support the entire range of production roles that are vital to the success of moving image projects. It is wonderful that we are able to celebrate the strong bonds of entrepreneurship and artistry between the UK and the USA.”
Mr. Pigott has been honored for his contributions to education, the arts, and social services, with the Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE), the Commander of the Order of the Crown (Belgium), The Officer of the Orange-Nassau (Netherlands) and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit (Hungary).
