We are pleased to announce that actress and producer Cate Blanchett will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the 2018 British Academy Britannia Awards. She joins previously announced honoree Steve McQueen, who will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing.
This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“With an impressive and extensive repertoire of work on screen and stage, Cate’s award-winning talent is unprecedented, earning her international acclaim and numerous accolades,” said BAFTA Los Angeles Chairman Kieran Breen. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate her brilliant work by honoring her with this year’s Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film.”
The Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film is presented to legendary individuals whose work is stamped with the indelible mark of authorship and ingenuity. Recipients of the honor have made a unique, enduring impact on the art forms of the moving image. Past recipients include Matt Damon (2017), Jodie Foster (2016), Meryl Streep (2015), Robert Downey Jr. (2014), George Clooney (2013), and more.
The British Academy Britannia Awards is BAFTA’s biggest event outside of the U.K., where Brits and anglophiles alike come together in Los Angeles in celebration of exceptional members of the creative community who have dedicated their careers to advancing the art forms of the moving image in the U.S., U.K. and beyond.
