BAFTA Announces Dates for the EE British Academy Film Awards and the British Academy Britannia Awards
Los Angeles and London (April 24, 2018): The British Academy of Film and Television Arts today announced that the EE British Academy Film Awards will take place in London on Sunday, February 10, 2019, and the British Academy Britannia Awards will take place at the Beverly Hilton, Los Angeles on Friday, October 26, 2018.
The EE British Academy Film Awards are BAFTA’s highest film honors, rewarding the best work of any nationality seen on British cinema screens. This year’s Fellowship, the highest honor bestowed by the Academy, was awarded to Sir Ridley Scott. Other award winners included Gary Oldman for Leading Actor, Frances McDormand for Leading Actress, Sam Rockwell for Supporting Actor and Allison Janney for Supporting Actress.
The British Academy Britannia Awards is BAFTA’s most prestigious event outside the U.K., where Brits and anglophiles alike come together in celebration of exceptional members of the international creative community who have dedicated their careers to advancing the art forms of the moving image in the U.S., U.K. and beyond. The honors recognize both outstanding British talent and exceptional international talent by virtue of their strong connection to the British industry through their body of work. First presented in 1989, the awards’ previous recipients have included Sir Anthony Hopkins, Stanley Kubrick, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Dick Van Dyke, Dame Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Idris Elbra, Emma Watson and Steven Spielberg. The 2017 ceremony was hosted by British comedian and actor Jack Whitehall and livestreamed internationally on IGN.
Other annual BAFTA ceremonies include the Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards, the Television Craft Awards, Games Awards, Cymru Awards, Scotland Awards, Scotland New Talent Awards, Children’s Awards and the Student Film Awards in the U.S., which are all supported by a year-round program of learning events, scholarships and other initiatives that help talented people enter the industries regardless of their background.
