BAFTA Los Angeles' Committees carry out invaluable work across our activities, and provide insight and expertise throughout our varied areas of work.
The Board of Directors determine the overall strategy, policy and direction for BAFTA Los Angeles, while it is our Committees and Staff who are tasked by the Board to deliver many of the programs and events within our overall mission. BAFTA Los Angeles currently operates the following Committees and are comprised of members of our Board, Staff, and volunteers from our BAFTA Los Angeles Membership. It is the Committee Chair who selects the members for his or her Committee.
Committees are formed and operate on an annual basis.

Our Sector Committees represent the key disciplines recognized within BAFTA's work, namely Film, Games, and Television. Our Sector Committees deliver events, guest speakers, and initiatives for BAFTA's ongoing programs, and serve to review and recruit new Members from their sector.
Co-Chairs: Tara Halloran & Alexa Jago
To represent the Film sector of the BAFTA Membership by securing eligible content for BAFTA Los Angeles programs, including guest speakers for the professional development events/programs, eligible titles for the screening program, and subjects for the Heritage Archive interview series. To review applications and make new recommendations for new BAFTA LA Membership from those working primarily in the Film sector.
Co-Chairs: Melissa Myers & Matt Creasey
To represent the TV sector of the BAFTA Membership by securing eligible content for BAFTA Los Angeles programs, including guest speakers for the professional development events/programs, eligible titles for the screening program, and subjects for the Heritage Archive interview series. To support, develop and promote focus on the television medium in order to further the goals and mission of the Academy. To review applications and make recommendations for new BAFTA LA Membership from those working primarily in the TV sector.
The Games sector operates a single global Games Committee based out of the UK. Games Membership applications are administered through the Games Membership Subgroup of this Committee. In the US, BAFTA LA welcomes professionals from the Games community to contact us to support and faciliate the implementationsof its Games activities in the US. This may include securing eligible content for BAFTA Los Angeles programs, including guest speakers for the professional development events/programs, eligible titles for the games previews, and subjects for the Heritage Archive interview series.
BAFTA Los Angeles is commited to creating opportunities for talented individals to enter the industry regardless of circumstance and background, and offer a network of support and programming as they develop their career in our industry.
Learning and New Talent Committee
Co-Chairs: Louise Chater, Sandro Monetti & Peter Morris
To oversee the application process and to curate programming for BAFTA’s new talent initiatives (Scholarships, Student Film awards, Newcomers and Alumni programs). To curate a program that provides a genuine level of structured support relevant to the various New Talents identified by BAFTA.
Scholarships: To review all Scholarship applicants and recommend the recipients to the BAFTA Los Angeles Board.
Student Film Awards: To engage the BAFTA membership in adjudicating the filmmaking work of the student body. To deliver an award competition and ceremony that celebrates the emerging talents from the student filmmaking body, with the winners receiving a genuine level of structured support by BAFTAduring this crucial time in their career.
Newcomers Program: To review applications and make recommendations to the Board that reflects a broad and diverse representation of the Film, TV and Games industries. To curate a program that provides meaningful support to UK and International professionals who have recently relocated to Los Angeles to work in the entertainment industry, or continue their studies in their field of work.
Community and Education Programs: Provide advice and guidance to BAFTA LA’s Community Outreach Program, specifically regarding educational best practices and connections to potential valuable educational partnerships and grants. Through education programs and social enrichment activities, the program utilizes the talents of the BAFTA Membership to provide opportunities and programs that ensure the Industry is accessible to talented people regardless of background or circumstance.
To ensure that management of BAFTA Los Angeles is consistent with the Bylaws, Policies and strategic goals of the Academy and to maintain oversight of the various committees. The Committee is empowered to make decision between Board meetings, and to allocate financial resources not to exceed $20,000 in any given month. The Executive Committee consists of the Chair, Deputy Chair(s), Secretary and Treasurer of BAFTA Los Angeles, as elected by the Board of Directors, along with the CEO.
Governance and Bylaws Committee
Chair: Gary Goldberger
To maintain and keep current the Bylaws and Policies of BAFTA Los Angeles, and ensure adherence to the Bylaws and Policies. To monitor the implementation of Policy, advise where future Policy would benefit the Academy and monitor the implementation and compliance of all non-profit statutes and law. To make recommendations to the Board on Governance and Board composition.
Chair: Phil Cross
To maintain oversight of the Academy’s finances. To develop and administer appropriate and successful financial plans and procedures to ensure the present and future financial health of the Academy.
Chair: Adam Bialow
Serve as the organization’s point of contact for BAFTA Los Angeles’ external Auditors. Must be comprised of non-staff members and separate from the function of the Finance Committee
Chair: Karl Stewart
To advise upon, support, and provide warm leads for all commercial sponsorship activities including year-round annual partnerships and event-based partnerships. The committee provides key support to the work of the Partnerships Director.
To advise upon and provide support for all fundraising activities including capital campaigns, personal donors, philanthropic support, grants, year-end giving, auction/raffles, fundraising dinners etc. This committee provides key support to the work of the Fundraising & Development Manager.

BAFTA Members will be selected to join a Committee based on the areas of expertise needed to fulfill the Committee's goals and mission. Therefore, while we appreciate all offers of interest, we will not be able to accommodate every request to join a Committee.
As well as our committees, BAFTA has opportunities for members to be involved with our activities throughout the year including mentoring roles for emerging talents, speakers in our education series and fundraising initiatives that we encourage all of our members to consider. Details on these opportunities are shared throughout the year in our newsletters and announcements.
