Job Title: Press and Marketing Assistant (six-month internship)

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is an independent charity that supports, develops and promotes the art forms of the moving image by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public. In addition to its Awards ceremonies, BAFTA has a year-round Learning & Events programme that offers unique access to some of the world’s most inspiring talent through workshops, masterclasses, lectures and mentoring schemes, connecting with audiences of all ages and backgrounds across the UK, Los Angeles and New York.

BAFTA is seeking an intern to support the small in-house press office, and assist with a range of digital marketing activity.

Key responsibilities

1. Assist with day-to-day press activity for BAFTA’s learning events and initiatives

2. Assist with building online communities for the promotion of BAFTA’s events and Awards

3. Aid the Learning & Events and Communications teams in on-going projects that promote BAFTA’s learning events and initiatives

Working closely with:

  • PR & Learning Campaigns Manager
  • Digital Marketing and Content Manager
  • Press and Communications Officer

Specific Responsibilities

1. Learning & Events

  • Compile and issue monthly events listings to the press
  • Respond to press enquiries, including requests for event tickets
  • Monitor press coverage of BAFTA events and learning initiatives
  • Build and maintain the media contacts database
  • Assist with the issuing and selling in of L&E press releases
  • Liaise with BAFTA’s external PR agency on strategic campaigns
  • Draft press releases (occasionally)

2. Communications (digital content marketing)

  • Generate targeted marketing lists using the media contacts database
  • Build relationships with key online individuals and groups to aid better promotion of BAFTA Guru content
  • Research and engage with relevant online forums to promote BAFTA content
  • Assist with audience data capture across BAFTA’s social media platforms

3. Other (on occasion as required)

  • Attend weekly communications meetings
  • Promote events to targeted groups (special interest and diversity groups)
  • Assist with the administration of communications between BAFTA and its membership
  • Other tasks as directed by Director of Learning & Events

Person Specification

  • A good understanding of the principles of public relations
  • Proven experience of working in a press office
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English for correspondence etc
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A proactive approach to tasks, demonstrating initiative
  • Proven interest in the film, television and games industries
  • Good knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Experience of Photoshop or similar image editing software would be an advantage
