PR and Marketing Intern

BAFTA is seeking an intern to support the Learning & Events team’s new in-house PR activity, and assist the Communications team with a range of marketing activity.

Job Title: PR and Marketing Intern
Reports to: Head of Learning and Events
Contract: Full-time, 12-month contract at £14,500 p/a. 3 month probationary period

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is an independent charity that supports, develops and promotes the art forms of the moving image by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public. In addition to its Awards ceremonies, BAFTA has a year-round Learning & Events programme that offers unique access to some of the world’s most inspiring talent through workshops, masterclasses, lectures and mentoring schemes, connecting with audiences of all ages and backgrounds across the UK, Los Angeles and New York.

BAFTA is seeking an intern to support the Learning & Events team’s new in-house PR activity, and assist the Communications team with a range of marketing activity.


Key responsibilities

1. Assist with press office and strategic public relations activity for BAFTA’s learning events and initiatives
2. Assist with marketing research and online promotion of BAFTA’s events and Awards
3. Aid the Learning & Events and Communications teams in on-going projects that promote BAFTA’s learning events and initiatives


Works closely with

Producer, Audience Development Projects (Learning & Events)
Digital Marketing Manager (Communications)


Specific Responsibilities

1. Learning & Events

  • Compile and issue monthly events listings to the press
  • Respond to press enquiries, including requests for event tickets
  • Monitor press coverage of BAFTA events and learning initiatives
  • Maintain the media contacts database
  • Assist with the issuing and selling in of L&E press releases
  • Liaise with BAFTA’s external PR agency on strategic campaigns

2. Communications

  • Assist with audience data capture across BAFTA’s social media platforms
  • Generate targeted marketing lists using the media contacts database
  • Research and engage with relevant online forums to promote BAFTA content

3. Other (on occasion as required)

  • Attend weekly communications meetings
  • Promote events to targeted groups (special interest and diversity groups)
  • Assist with the promotion of the Albert online carbon calculator for productions
  • Assist with the coordination of communication between the BAFTA and its branches in Scotland, Wales, New York and Los Angeles
  • Other tasks as directed by Head of Learning and Events/ Communications Manager

Person Specification

  • A good understanding of strategic public relations
  • Proven experience of working in a press office
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own time and take initiative
  • Strong interest in the film, television and games industries
  • Good knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Experience of Photoshop or similar image editing software would be an advantage
