Head of Sponsorship & Development

The Academy now seeks a Head of Sponsorship & Development to join its senior management team and to manage its key sponsorships, a wide range of other corporate relationships and the introduction of a critical new fundraising function for the Academy. Excellent package, central London.

The role provides a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on BAFTA’s commercial activities. You will be responsible for developing a cohesive and systematic approach to commercial partnerships through your knowledge of industry best practice. This will include reviewing existing business activities to ensure they are fulfilling their true potential, identifying new revenue-generating opportunities and continually developing stronger relationships with our existing corporate sponsors.

You will have at least eight years experience at a senior level in business development, corporate relations and/or sponsorship together with a demonstrable proven track record of delivering sustainable, financially successful business initiatives in a corporate relations context. Your appreciation of corporate hospitality and what makes an event truly successful plus empathy with BAFTA’s artistic and charitable remit will be necessary to ensure your success in this role. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential.

Key responsibilities

1) To identify, secure, manage, maintain and develop sponsors and partners of the Academy’s Awards ceremonies
2) To identify, secure, manage, maintain and develop subsidiary sponsorship revenue streams around the Academy’s Awards, Learning and Events activity
3) To develop and manage the Academy’s Corporate Partnership scheme
4) To manage, motivate and work alongside the Academy’s advertising sales team
5) To oversee the transition of the department as it incorporates the key future activity of fundraising
6) To develop and maintain other commercial income streams and fundraising activities
7) Overall, to grow an income stream of £2.1m to £3.0m by 2010.

d. Title sponsor of the British Academy Children’s Film and Television Awards (currently EA)
e. Category sponsors of the British Academy Television Craft Awards

2) Subsidiary revenue streams around the Awards:
a. Film Awards:
i. Official Partners
ii. Media Partners
iii. Tour Partner
iv. Nominee Gift Suppliers
v. Goody bag sponsor
vi. Event official gift or goody bag gifts
vii. Other event exposure

b. Television Awards:
i. Official Partners
ii. Media Partners
iii. Nominee Gift Suppliers
iv. Goody bag sponsor
v. Event official gift or goody bag gifts

c. Video Games Awards:

3) Learning and Events Programme:

4) Corporate Partnership scheme:
a. Maintain number of Corporate Partners and Academy Supporters at optimum level
b. Expand and maintain scheme as appropriate

5) Fundraising:
a. Oversee introduction of fundraising function for the Academy
b. It is envisaged that the function will be managed on a day to day basis by a Fundraising Manager
c. Develop and oversee fundraising function as appropriate according to business plan targets

6) Foundations and Trusts:
a. Strategy to be developed as part of new fundraising function

7) New business opportunities:
a. Advise and develop strategies on new potential commercial partnerships arising from BAFTA’s charitable remit
b. Develop such partnerships when strategies are approved by the Board

8) Advertising:
a. Manage, motivate, advise and work with the Advertising Sales team in order to meet advertising targets and develop new advertising revenue streams

9) Other Awards ceremonies:
a. Assist BAFTA Cymru and BAFTA Scotland with their range of sponsorship and fundraising needs

Functions of the role

1) The Head of Sponsorship and Development should:
a. Prepare strategies for finding new sponsors where there are gaps in the sponsorship portfolio
b. Manage the search for any new sponsors
c. Ensure that sponsors are properly managed around their events and throughout the year
d. Seek to develop sponsorship relationships so that the full benefit of each sponsorship relationship is enjoyed by the Academy
e. Ensure that the Corporate Partnership scheme is properly managed and maintained
f. Ensure that the Academy receives good value from its corporate sponsors and supporters
g. Always consider the overall financial benefit of its sponsorship and supporter relationships
h. Agree targets for all sponsorship arrangements with the Chief Operating Officer
i. Liaise and work with other managers and officers in the organisation to the benefit of sponsorship and supporter relationships
j. Apply the above principles to fundraising when it is introduced as a function of the Academy
